My name is Bas van den Berg (to be exact: ing. Bas van den Berg
MA CEH) and I live in the Netherlands. I've studied Information
Technology (bachelor, ing. is a Dutch title) and Theology (master,
specialized in pastoral counseling). I'm currently working as a
Domein architect, with a special interest in people, security and
sustainability, with a large insurance company, Achmea, in the Netherlands. I've
worked with quite a lot of different technologies, like Linux,
Windows, AS/400 and Web, and programming languages, like Java, C#,
C++, Cool:plex, classic ASP, Coldfusion and Delphi (among others).
I'm a big fan of open source and world wide standards.
Why do I use the handle Division by Zero? Besides that it is a
common software error, I'm a guy with many interests: this handle
represents both my 'beta' side, it is based on an axiomatic science
(Math), and my 'alpha' side (and a little bit of a gamma side:
there is a lot of psychology in pastoral counseling and coaching).
What do you get when you divide something by zero? A problem, which
is solved by a lot of computers/calculators by displaying something
like 'infinity'. As a theologian infinite things are a part of
study. As a human infinity is part of life. As a junior in
high-school I became more and more interested in practical digital
security (yes, I hacked a lot. You've got to love euphemisms).
Therefore I needed a handle and this handle still works for me.
In my spare time I like to read, make and listen to music,
photography and doing volunteer work (currently I'm giving
catechises at my local church). Of course beside spending quality
time with my wife, daughter, son and cat.
