As a really happy Kindle user, I was quite sad that my Kindle broke. Resetting didn't help, I saw the led react, the kindle came online on my access point, but the screen didn't react. So... when my new Kindle came in it was time to do a little investigation on my broken Kindle. Warning: I really don't know if opening your Kindle will void your warranty. Know or avoid this risk! The first step was opening the backside. This was quite easy. While being careful you can open every connecting point. The next step was to remove the battery. This is a definite guarantee that it would reset. Alas... still no effect, the screen didn't respond. The next steps were to determine which connector connected the display. To do this a lot of small screws needed to bee loosened. At first the connector for the cover with reading light came off. The front part came off. Only the connector held the two parts together. Well... at least now we know which connector connects the display. The connector didn't have any dust in it and it wasn't loose, so that couldn't be the problem. At least this gave me the opportunity to study the e-paper display more closely. To sum up: this is the fully dissected Kindle 3 (Latest generation). |
