What if everything is a dream?

Recently I was taking a walk with a good friend and we were talking about the philosophical question: What if everything is a dream? What if the world around me doesn't exist, but everything is a figment of my imagination?Celtic Dream

This can be a frightening thought. It raises existential questions. How can you know what's real? Well... you can't. It is impossible to know if the world around us is real. Though this thought doesn't bring us any practical use, the thought that our loved ones don't really exist can be hard.

The question I ask myself is: Does it matter? My love for them is real. Doesn't that make them real enough? It sure does make them important and real enough.

I woke up a few nights ago and had this weird sensation that I was falling asleep with my eyes open. It seemed to illustrate that this is a dream. Once I got up and wrote my dream down in Wordpad, then I woke up... again. Of course, the writing wasn't there when I was on this plane.
