Romans 12 - Part 13

For the last part in the series on Romans 12 I couldn't see verse 20 and 21 apart from each other. So this part will cover both:

Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

About a half year ago a colleague told me he was in a fight with his neighbour. They were angry at each other and he was quite scared by this other person, who he suspected from criminal activities. I gave him advice to go to this man, apologise (even if he didn't think his actions were incorrect) and give the man flowers or a small gift like that. He and some other colleagues thought it was advise of a fool.

Well, actually, my advise was based on these verses. Repay anger with love and hate with forgiveness. Then you won't be the fool, the other person is. It is the kindest way to point out the erroneous ways of someone else. You can draw the line with anger, you can draw the line with love. The line drawn with love is a line that will last forever.

A few month later this colleague told me that he thought he should have listened to me. The quarrel escalated. It even involved the police at the time he told me.

For these final verses in the series of Romans 12: let love be the lesson and the lesson be love!
